NAKED KING
The Wine Behind the Crown.
Before founding Pieria Eratini, Pavlos Argyropoulos and Andreas Pantos, spent years working at a major historic winery. Starting their own estate meant leaving behind the protection of an established name. Their experience remained, but the reputation they would now build had to be their own.
In that sense, they were naked.
They began with a clear ambition: to create a distinctive red wine, a king among reds. Naked King became the name of that ambition — a wine that would earn its place through what was inside the bottle.
A label that asks you to look closer
Beetroot’s award-winning label gives this idea a physical form.
An almost blank white surface carries the outline of a crown. The lettering is hidden in relief, inviting your fingers to discover what your eyes may initially miss.
Then the wine itself can become part of the design. If a drop reaches the label as the bottle is opened or poured, it stains the surface and reveals the name. The wine leaves its mark, making each encounter with the bottle a little different.
The name also carries a quiet nod to Hans Christian Andersen’s The Emperor’s New Clothes. The tale invites us to question appearances and the authority we grant them. For us, that question belongs in wine as well: what gives a wine its value, and how much of it can we discover for ourselves?
Nakedness as honesty
There is a more personal meaning behind the name, too.
Sharing wine can create a moment of openness: a conversation in which formalities soften and we feel more able to speak as ourselves. Here, nakedness becomes an image of honesty — of meeting our own reflection with fewer disguises.
Naked King brings these ideas together in the vineyard, the bottle and the label. It expresses the spirit of Pieria Eratini: winemakers driven by curiosity, a desire to create, and the pleasure of giving a wine its own story.
